Host Skull does MODULES in Pittsburgh, PA 11/17!

on Fri, 2011-11-11 16:03

MODULES is a new overarching composition that allows for individual and overlapping miniature pieces for music and dance. The Pittsburgh version of Host Skull will expand to a six-piece, including three dancers and three musicians, to deliver the premiere performance of this complex and engaging work. The evening promises avant-rock, tight instructions, improvisation, athletics, lecture, and thought experiments.

Host Skull started as a recording project between Will Dyar and David Bernabo. Since the two collaborate from Sante Fe and Pittsburgh, respectively, two versions of Host Skull came into existence, one in each city (sometimes coming together as the superpower Host Skull). The Pittsburgh version of Host Skull is comprised of David Bernabo (guitar), Brandon Masterman (saxophones), and Pj Roduta (percussion). MODULES welcomes three additional collaborators: Jessica Behning, Taylor Knight, Katie Rodrigues.

Recently, Host Skull released the TOTALLY FATALIST LP on Chicago's Antephonic label. The limited edition vinyl version will be available at the performance. Host also recently performed a live score to Cecil B. DeMille's THE GOLDEN BED at the Andy Warhol Museum and will open the first INHABIT HOST SKULL art installation in Pittsburgh in March 2012.

We very much hope to can make it to this premiere performance!!

Hi All!

I have some big news for this e-mail. Host Skull's debut Totally Fatalist LP will be released today! Tuesday, September 13 on Chicago's Antephonic label. Host Skull is the new duo of Will Dyar and myself. Of course, we couldn't do it alone, so a slew of Pittsburgh and Sante Fe musicians lent their talents to the record. Some of the other core contributors are Brandon Masterman (saxophones, voice), Kerrith Livengood (flutes, piccolo), Liz Adams (voice, double bass), Jeff Berman (percussion), and Vince Camut (pedal steel). We are very pleased with the album and sincerely hope that you check it out. It contains lots of orchestration and what we hope are inviting and surprising songs.

The album can be found at the following locations:

Paul's CDs (LP/CD) (Pittsburgh)
Mind Cure (LP) (Pittsburgh)
Insound (LP) http://www.insound.com/Totally-Fatalist-Vinyl-LP-Host-Skull/P/INS98873/

Totally Fatalist, designed by Bearded

Bearded's Totally Fatalist page: http://bearded.com/portfolio/print/host-skull

Bearded did a fantastic job transforming the scant ideas and beautiful Adam Dant drawings into a full out album package. The LP has hand drawn "type" by Matt Braun, a full lyrics insert with instrument credits, front and back designs. Check out their page for more information on how it came together.
