MODULES08: Jil Stifel, Bre Short, David Bernabo \\ 1.25.13 \\ 937 Liberty Ave

on Fri, 2013-01-25 18:12

On 1.25.13 at 7pm sharp, Jil Stifel, Bre Short, and David Bernabo will present MODULES 08, a nine-minute piece for naration and movement at 937 Liberty Gallery. The performance is part of the closing night opening for the Casey Droege-curated SIX x ATE exhibit. The Sprout Fund rounded up a few of the Sprout-related artists featured in the show here. And Kim Beck published a great interview with Casey at Temporary Art Review here. For my part, I have two pieces in the exhibit: 1) a listenable copy of the Hexagon hexagonal 8" lathe cut, released on Host Skull Ongoing Box. 2) Video documentation of MODULES 02, 04, and 06.

Hope to see you there!! Facebook invite: here

Host Skull's MODULES 06/LEY LINE

on Wed, 2012-08-15 04:43

The sixth iteration of the MODULES composition was created for video. Two TVs ran a series of stop-motion clips with movement by Taylor Knight and Amy Wellock-Staggs and music by Will Dyar, Ben Montgomery, and myself. Assemble, the Garfield gallery, housed the video installation along with great work by Emily Walley, Justin Hopper, Nina Barbuto, and others. The above documentation takes the two sequences and lines them up into one, easily-digestible viewing. All locations were filmed along a fictional ley line running through Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood.

Host Skull Premieres MODULES in Rochester, NY! 11/05

on Fri, 2011-10-28 03:38

MODULES is a new overarching composition that allows for individual and overlapping miniature pieces for music and dance. The Pittsburgh version of Host Skull will expand to a six-piece, including three dancers and three musicians, to deliver the premiere performance of this complex and engaging work. The evening promises avant-rock, tight instructions, improvisation, athletics, lecture, and thought experiments.

Host Skull started as a recording project between Will Dyar and David Bernabo. Since the two collaborate from Sante Fe and Pittsburgh, respectively, two versions of Host Skull came into existence, one in each city (sometimes coming together as the superpower Host Skull). The Pittsburgh version of Host Skull is comprised of David Bernabo (guitar), Brandon Masterman (saxophones), and Pj Roduta (percussion). MODULES welcomes three additional collaborators: Jessica Behning, Taylor Knight, Katie Rodrigues.

Recently, Host Skull released the TOTALLY FATALIST LP on Chicago's Antephonic label. The limited edition vinyl version will be available at the performance. Host also recently performed a live score to Cecil B. DeMille's THE GOLDEN BED at the Andy Warhol Museum and will open the first INHABIT HOST SKULL art installation in Pittsburgh in March 2012.

We very much hope to can make it to this premiere performance!!
